Project Origins: This financial literacy project was inspired by “Nickled and Dimed”, a novel written by Barbara Ehrenreich. Begun in 2008, this project is still evolving. The idea was created in a brainstorming session led by Mrs. Jewel Glenn, one of the BAB members employed at the Federal Reserve in Charlotte.
Project Objective: Currently, My$pending teaches high school students basic banking skills such as checking and savings as well as information on credit cards and credit scores. UNCC SIFE developed an easy to understand curriculum with the help of financial professionals from Hinrichs Flanagan, Wachovia, and Bank of America. Target Audience: This project will impact high school students ages 16 and up.
